News... tadka maarke?
News... tadka maarke?
I've been away from India for a while, and now, being back here, I was craving for everything Indian. Fried food, tandoori chicken and of course... Indian TV.
My Dad, like every other middle class patriarch watches the News Channels with a fair amount of interest. So, I too get my fair dose of the daily goings on. However, what shocked me was the state of the Indian news channels. Yes, they look a lot more polished and slick than DD did so many years ago, but I'm afraid they have fallen prey to the rat race, and fail to deliver news as it is supposed to be - impartially, without dramatization.
Take for instance the entire Gudiya fiasco (for lack of a more potent word). On prime time TV, with the whole country watching, a certain news channel asked her to choose whom she wanted to be with. Well, that was resolved as it was, and now there is the issue of the child...
I do not debate that these are issues - they are. But not as serious as they are made out to be. Besides, what is the necessity for the two husbands to be brought face to face to argue their claim for the baby? Are the courts, panchayats and all other judicial bodies defunct, that it is the responsibility of the news channels to make the decision? Surely, one could report the issue and move on...
But in this game of one-upmanship, every news channel wants to win. But this is the reality tv era... if you can have reality shows on every channel, why should the news channels lag behind?
Maybe I should change the channel... I have wonderful choices though - The bickering and scheming saas and bahus or the aura of despair because Mr. Hansome has been eliminated from his favourite singing reality show. And of course there us Rakhi Sawant! Back then she was singing "Pardesia...", now it's "Buddha mil gaya...". Well, I did leave then, and am older now! Do you think she's hinting at me? But again, I don't have time for her right now... that reporter dude is about to announce who the rightful claimant to Gudiya's child is!!! Gotta go!
